Senior Congress leader and former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu today issued a press statement expressing concern over the issue of vote theft, saying this is not confined to any one state or region but is a sign of a direct attack on the sacred framework of the Constitution and democracy.
Sidhu said that before elections, the BJP government has been removing thousands of names from the voter list and creating fake votes, running a new racket of vote theft – which is nothing less than the murder of democracy.
This has not only happened in Karnataka and is happening in Bihar, but the same authoritarianism has been witnessed in Haryana, Maharashtra, and across the country – an issue which Rahul Gandhi highlighted in full detail yesterday. For the first time in history, such a large number of voters’ names were deleted and fake votes created before an election.
Sidhu said that this serious matter will be raised at every constitutional forum, ensuring that no government is allowed to play with the people’s right to vote.
He said Rahul Gandhi bringing this matter to the people’s court was not only the need of the hour but also a very courageous step for the protection of democracy. The questions Rahul Gandhi has raised are the very questions arising in the minds of every true Indian citizen.
Sidhu alleged that the BJP government is misusing constitutional institutions like the Election Commission to steal votes, just to cling to power by any means. He said the Modi government has lost the trust of the people and is now trying to hide the truth through brute force.
The Congress Party, which made countless sacrifices for India’s freedom, will fight this new battle with full force to protect the Constitution and democracy. Sidhu said that just as voices for truth were raised during British rule, today too the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, will strongly oppose the BJP’s dictatorship and its tactics of undermining elections.
Sidhu appealed to the people to understand and defend their constitutional rights. “When we vote in elections, we are not just casting a ballot – we are choosing our future.”
